The Hamlet Board of Gray would like to share an important update regarding the wastewater pumping system and addressing recent concerns raised by residents. We recognize the frustration some residents are experiencing and want to ensure everyone is informed about current conditions, temporary guidance, and ongoing review efforts.
*Wastewater System Update*
Some residents may experience difficulty pumping out during periods of high system usage. When multiple pumps operate at the same time, the shared system can become overloaded, which may prevent individual pumps from functioning properly.
*Temporary Guidance for Residents*
If you are unable to pump out, residents are encouraged to take the following temporary steps:
1. Check your system’s check valve.
Ensure your check valve is functioning properly. Because the wastewater system is interconnected, a faulty check valve may allow water to flow back into your tank. This can cause pumps to run more frequently than normal household water usage requires, placing unnecessary strain on both your pump and the overall system.
2. Reduce or pause water usage during pumping issues.
If you notice your pump running longer than normal or having difficulty pumping out, temporarily reduce or pause water usage. Wait and retry pumping later when fewer pumps may be operating. Many residents have found this effective in relieving short‑term system pressure and helping prevent pump damage caused by extended or dry running.
*System Review and Long‑Term Planning*
The Hamlet Board will be reviewing the overall capacity of the wastewater system and evaluating potential solutions.
This is a shared system that must function reliably for everyone connected to it. While installing a larger or more powerful pump may seem like a quick fix, doing so can place additional strain on the system. Pumps that exceed what the system can safely handle may ultimately need to be removed at the owners cost. Increasing pump size alone is not a sustainable solution and does not address system‑wide capacity concerns.
*Our Commitment*
The Hamlet Board is committed to working toward solutions that are fair, effective, and in the best interest of all residents. We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we work through this matter together.
For questions or concerns, residents are encouraged to contact the Hamlet Board directly.
Regards,
Hamlet Board of Gray

The Hamlet of Gray History now has its own independent website
You can access it through our "History" tab.
This is an ongoing project. In fact, some notes asking for more 'info/ dates /names /whatever' are included. The site can be edited or added to at will. We look forward to any contributions you would like to submit - use the Contact Us option please.
Thanks to everyone (old and young - but mostly old) that helped gather the information that has been included. 'the ties that bind' was a major source as well as photos and notes kept by those before us.
Thanks to Laurie Hozempa for her diligent researching help and to Lori Boesch for getting it on-line.

We Would Love to Have You Visit Soon!
